Through our proprietary Portrait SDK, SimilarWeb offers personalization as a service product that permits third party publishers and application developers integrating our Portrait SDK to provide services and products customized to your interests and geographical location, which we infer from data and information we collect about you and your interactions with your mobile device. By using an application that integrates the Portrait SDK, you consent to the processing and use of such data and information in accordance with this Policy. In this Policy, we refer to applications that integrate the Portrait SDK as “Apps”. We are only responsible for adherence to this Policy in connection with information collected by our Portrait SDK, and we are not responsible for the content or services (“Offerings”) you receive or for any transaction you may enter into as a consequence of receiving such Offerings.
The Portrait SDK collects data from your phone to provide you with personalized services across different Apps that have been installed on your phone. We provide a service to third party publishers and developers, to leverage such data in order to personalize their Offerings to you. SimilarWeb’s data collection is therefore limited to the data available to the application that includes the Portrait SDK. We believe this will improve your experience by replacing the generic and non-personalized Offerings that are otherwise generally presented to you.
In order to do this, the Portrait SDK collects and/or records items such as:
Creating a Portrait
The SDK starts to collect data as soon as an app containing the Portrait SDK is opened on your device. Your installation of such an app constitutes a legally binding acceptance of this Policy. The collection of data continues under this Policy until you either: (a) remove any application that integrates the Portrait SDK from your phone, or (b) opt-out of interest-based ads on your phone, by opening the “Google Settings” application, clicking on the “Ads” option and then selecting the checkbox next to “Opt out of interest-based ads”. We respect and will comply with this decision until you uncheck the box next to “Opt out of interest-based ads”. Any data that is collected is encrypted and then uploaded from your phone over a secured connection to our servers.
In order to unlink any data we have collected from your device (so that it is no longer associated with your Google Advertising ID), please reset the Advertising Identifier from the Ads page (Settings > Privacy > Advertising).
Some of the data and information we collect can indirectly be used to identify you (such as your device’s Google Advertising ID until it is reset), while other data and information (such as your location) can only be used to identify you when combined with other information. As described below, we use some of this data and information in an anonymized and/or aggregated form that does not identify you personally, in order to improve our services, perform web and mobile analytics, and work with entities with which we have a strategic relationship.
We may use the information we collect about you in an anonymized way or combine it with the data of other users in an anonymized, aggregated way, to improve our algorithms, measure service usage, publish summaries online or offline, and to develop new features such as recognizing popular apps. We will not disclose or display information that discloses the identity of individual users or from which individual users can be recognized. Furthermore, our team members (e.g. engineers and data scientists) may need to occasionally review raw data to improve our products and services. We may also share your anonymized or aggregated information with third parties such as vendors, agents, advertisers, or other entities with which we have a strategic relationship.
Except as specified above in this Policy, we currently do not store any of your personally identifiable data. To the extent we have any access to your personally identifiable data, we would not disclose such data to third parties unless (1) you have given explicit consent to each such disclosure (for example, to a third party payment processor), (2) we are required to comply with a legal obligation (and in this case, we would provide you notice unless we are prevented by law from doing so) or (3) if our business or assets, or parts of them, are acquired by a third party.
We use third party vendors and hosting solutions to provide the necessary hardware, software, networking, storage, and related technology required to provide the service. By submitting your personal data, you agree to this. We use commercially reasonable physical and technical safeguards to secure your data. We encrypt the communication channels using Secure Sockets Layer. However, we cannot guarantee the security of your data, which may be compromised by unauthorized entry or use, hardware or software failure, and other factors.
The Portrait SDK is not meant to collect data about or provide services to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect or solicit any data from anyone under 13. If you are under 13, please do not attempt to download or use applications that integrate the Portrait SDK or send any personal information about yourself to us. If we find out that we have collected any personal information from someone under 13, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe someone under 13 is using an application that integrates the Portrait SDK or may have provided us personal information, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We may share your anonymized and/or aggregated information with clients, affiliates and other third parties described above who are based in countries outside of your country of residence (for example, if you are an EU resident, we may share your information with our non-EU clients or affiliates). While some countries may not have data protection laws that are equivalent to those of the country in which you reside, we will take all reasonable measures to protect your information in accordance with this Policy and applicable legal requirements. The data that we collect from you may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination which is different to where you are located. We currently store the data collected using the Portrait SDK on equipment located in the United States. We have implemented security measures and procedures in order to ensure that your data is protected adequately, regardless of the country where it is stored or otherwise processed.
In some countries, you may have the right to access the information that we hold about you. We may charge a small fee for processing this request (as permitted by law). This right can be exercised by contacting email@example.com or clicking Contact us to send your request online. However, because we use measures and safeguards to avoid storing personally identifiable information, it may be difficult or impossible for us to identify, access or retrieve the specific information that we had previously collected from your device, and to distinguish it from the rest of our anonymized and aggregated data. Accordingly, while you may direct requests to us regarding access to your data, and whereas we will fully cooperate and endeavor to respond to your requests, it may in fact be impossible to retrieve your data to the extent it has been anonymized and aggregated. We believe this enhances and promotes your privacy rights and the protection of your data.
We will only retain your data for as long as necessary for the purposes communicated above.
This Policy may be updated from time to time and therefore we ask you to check back periodically for the most updated version of the Policy, as indicated below. By continuing to use applications that integrate the Portrait SDK after we make changes to our Policy, you agree to all of the changes. Whenever we use information we have collected, it will be subject to the Policy in place at the time we use the information.
